Wisconsin Agribusiness Council to hold 23rd Annual Fundraising Auction PDF Print E-mail

Wisconsin Farm AuctionOn August 22nd, the Wisconsin Agribusiness Council will hold their annual fundraising auction for the 23rd time.  The auction will take place at Stoughton's "Mandt Center", and will raise money to teach the public about fiber, food, and natural resources.

Thinking about attending the auction in Stoughton?

You can bid on hotel certificates, restaurant certificates, landscaping and orchard supplies, animal supplies, and much more!  What's more, you can also purchase refreshments if you'd like to "cool down" from all of the auction action.

Many businesses in Wisconsin have donated to the auction...last year it raised over $20,000.  These businesses have primarily donated products and services of value...if you are a business that is looking to donate, items can be pledged by giving the council a call at (815) 858-5040.

About the Wisconsin Agribusiness Council

The Wisconsin Agribusiness Council and it's educational foundation, Wisconsin Agribusiness Foundation, sets out to educate the public about the everyday lives of Wisconsin farmers and our rich agricultural past here in Wisconsin.  Another purpose that the council serves is to give their industry a voice regarding political decisions that are made down in Madison.

Wisconsin "Puppy Mill" Bills to "Leash" Dog Dealers PDF Print E-mail

Puppy Mills

Were these bills prompted by the Thorp Dog Auction?

Legislators in our fine state of Wisconsin have formulated two new bills aimed at regulating dog dealers within the state.  The two bills are: Assembly Bill 250 and Senate Bill 208, which are primarily geared towards animal control facilities, animal shelters, and dog dealers.

Features of the Wisconsin Puppy Mill Bills:
-A person who sells 25 or more dogs in a year (including a non-resident who brings dogs into the state for sale).
-A person who operates a dog breeding facility from which 25 or more dogs are sold in a year.
-A person who operates an auction at which 50 or more dogs are sold or offered for sale in a year.
-A person who operates an animal shelter that houses at least 25 dogs in a year.
-A person who operates an animal control facility under contract with a municipality or county.

Low Milk Prices = More Milk Cows for Auction? PDF Print E-mail
Animal Auctions WisconsinThe short answer to this question is maybe, but not at this point.  There are numerous reasons why milk cows might be tagged for slaughter, but many of the large dairies are sending their cows directly to their meatpacker or choice.

It is very difficult and time consuming for a small milk producer to tag a milk cow back into production rather than sending it to an auction where it would be purchased by meatpackers.  There are a significant amount of testing that would need to take place in order to do this (TB requirements, etc.).  Transporting the cows to the auction is also very costly due to the current price of gas (not to mention that there is also testing that needs to take place in order to transfer this cattle from state to state).

Rothschild Indoor Water Park Auction Postponed PDF Print E-mail

The auction of "financially troubled" Lodge at Cedar Creek on Tuesday has been postponed until August as a bank is foreclosing on the property.  An Associated Bank attorney says the sheriff's sale will be held in order to pay off a $6 million loan.

If there are no bids on the property, the bank will then be free to sell it.  Associated Bank pursued foreclosing the business in January in what has been described as a "mutual agreement" with the owners of The Lodge at Cedar Creek.

Combined, the hotel and water park have an estimated valued of nearly $17 million, and continues to remain open.  Officials involved with the sale believe that they know of several potential bidders.

The resort had opened it's doors in June of 2004 and is said to be the largest indoor water park in the northern half of Wisconsin.
