Seeking continuing education units to fulfill their license renewal requirement and upgrade their professionalism, there were Auctioneers from across Wisconsin as well as Iowa, Illinois, and Minnesota at the Wisconsin Auctioneers Association Annual Conference Conference and Trade Show Jan. 25-27 at the Kalahari Resort & Convention Center in Wisconsin Dells. Opening day included a continuing education course for license renewal; workshops on auction software demonstrations and Internet marketing. A panel of experts covering a variety of auction topics featured Beland and Yoder plus Bob Gavin CAI of Reedsburg, Timothy A. Slack CAI of Fennimore. New Auctioneers had the opportunity to be coached in private sessions with Paul C. Behr CAI, a triple-crown winner of auto, livestock and the international Auctioneer competitions and owner of World Wide College of Auctioneering in Mason City, Iowa. From a field of outstanding Auctioneers with experience of three years or less, Michelle Massart, CAI, BAS of Green Bay won the Novice of the Year Competition while Harry Betthauser of Milwaukee captured the title of Oldtimer of the Year, limited to those 65 years of age and older. Monday and Tuesday included presentations by NAA director Behr; Chris Pracht CAI-AARE-CES of Charleston, S. Car. in addition to workshops on various aspects of the auction industry. Jay Clarke of Ripon was inducted into the coveted Auctioneer Hall of Fame. Tribute was paid to WAA members who had passed away during the past year, including Gerald Berkshire of Edgerton, Jim Heike of Mondovi, Steven L. Good AARE of Chicago, Dick Klas of Fennimore, Patricia Massart CAI-GPPA-CES of Green Bay, Ray Miskimon of Lena, Ill. and Ed Walk of Marinette, Wis. Hines Auction Service of Ellsworth received the Best of Show for advertising excellence. |
